AUSTIN, Texas (AP) You may want to check out a library or two before you head out.
A new state law requires all library patrons to have a library Card.
The card costs $50 and is valid for three years, but if you’re looking for a second one, you can get one for $65.
A $100 annual membership also entitles you to a free digital download of a book from the Nashville Public Library.
The state’s public libraries have been using the cards for more than a year and the Nashville and Austin public libraries said they have received requests from thousands of patrons.
Public libraries in the state of Texas are required to provide library cards to anyone who needs them, but it’s unclear how many people actually get them.
Some of those who do get them are charged extra for their cards, but that’s not usually the case.
There is one exception.
The Dallas Public Library has been using them for years.
The Texas Library Association said that since January 1, it has received more than 20,000 requests for library cards, many of them from people with disabilities.
They are not required to do that but the association has a website where you can download an app and scan a QR code on the card to show the library where you are.
It says it doesn’t have a list of people who need a card.

For the record, the Austin public library does not have a card and has not been able to receive any of the more than 3,000 library card requests from disabled people who are using it, spokeswoman Ashley Riddle said.
Austin Public Library is not the only public library that has been having problems getting a library cards.
The Nashville Public library said that between January 1 and March 1, more than 2,000 people applied for a library account.
About 300 people have been approved for the account.
In a statement, Nashville Public said the library’s board of directors had been working to develop a system for cardholders that could help ensure their access to the library.
It is not clear how many of those people are using a library.
The library board is expected to meet in Nashville on Wednesday to discuss what steps to take in the future, Nashville library spokeswoman Emily Miller said.
